Minute 18–28: what readiness can look like at home

10 minutes

Families connect school readiness with ordinary routines rather than a score or checklist.

What you use: four everyday-situation cards, pens, one take-home card per family

What happens in this excerpt

  1. Show four situations: getting dressed, setting a table, listening to a story and finding a number.
  2. Ask pairs to choose one situation their child already joins and name what the child is practising.
  3. Collect examples under independence, maths, language and hand skills without ranking children.
  4. Invite each family to choose one small activity to try during the coming week.
Words you can use straight away
“Which ordinary moment already works well in your family?”
“What could make joining in a little easier?”
Small group

Discuss one card together and let families respond aloud or simply listen.

Large group

Use four table groups, then collect one voluntary example from each table.

Safety: Do not ask families to disclose diagnoses or personal child information; participation in discussion is optional.
